Kibera

Kibera (constituency and district) is regarded by NCIC as one of the political hotspots in Kenya. The Hekima Community  Peace training targeted Kibera mixed community leaders with the aim of reducing community violence in whatever form it takes by empowering the community leaders with conflict management skills and peacebuilding strategies that include economic activities that will reduce unemployment and therefore the possibilities of citizens being manipulated politically. The training had 30 participants from the 13 villages of Kibera.

Mathare

Hekima Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations (HIPSIR) in partnership with Peace at Heart Initiative Network (PHIN) organized the Mathare Uchaguzi Bora project whose main objective was to dispel fear from the electorate in view of the Mathare by-election which was scheduled for August 2014.The project aimed to impart the following skills; peace building, conflict transformation, mitigation and dialogue in order to enhance participation and therefore have a free and fair by-election. The project targeted six wards namely, Mabatini, Ngei, Hospital, Mlango Kubwa, Huruma and Kiamaiko.

Mathare

Eastleigh

The Peace Building and Conflict Management workshop was held on the 2nd - 6th June, 2014 at PCEA Eastleigh Community Center, with participants mobilized from Eastleigh Airbase Location, Kamukunji Sub County.The participants represented different diverse backgrounds and were mostly the youth who had never attended such a course before. Therefore the workshop offered a good opportunity for the youth to access the requisite knowledge and skills in peace building and conflict management which will go a long way in enhancing peace and mutual coexistence in the community.

Kisumu

Kisumu Community Peace Workshop

The Kisumu region has been seen as vulnerable to violence whenever the country is politically tense. The post-election violence of 2007/8 led not only to loss of life in the region but also destruction of property and unemployment coupled by deep pain and frustration that will take long to heal. This workshop aimed at promoting national cohesion and inter-religious dialogue targeted the youth from different religious affiliations.

Kisumu

Marsabit.

HIPSIR was part of a project that facilitated the promotion of interaction and training on Non -violent Communication for Morans who were major actors in the conflict between the Rendile and Borana Communities.

County Governance, Citizen Participation and Catholic Social Teachings.

County Governance

HIPSIR in has embarked on a 3 year project targeting Machakos, Bungoma and Mombasa counties. The main objective of the project is to equip members of the public with a general knowledge on how the County government functions and its relation with the National government with the long term vision of having citizens who are proactive on issues of governance within their counties.
