Women in Post-handshake

HIPSIR in partnership with Inclusive Peace and Transition Initiative (IPTI) hosted a strategic meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to find ways in which women can contribute to an inclusive, just and sustaining peace in Kenya after the handshake. It was underscored that women in different parts of the country at all levels engage in diverse activities towards this realization. However, their activities are uncoordinated hence little collaboration and thus increased competition among themselves. It was therefore deemed that by coming together and putting their voices heard, women can have a unified agenda towards a just and peaceful society.

Basing their reflections on past successful contributions of women in the national dialogue agenda, members present came up with the following ways in which women can contribute to an inclusive just and sustaining peace in Kenya: formation of a Women's overarching movement; formation of strategic partnerships with other actors; effective use of media campaign against violence in collaboration with youth in the communities; and inclusion of trauma-informed initiatives in peace processes
